As the good people of the affected states of the eastern seaboard on North America start the big clean up after Sandy, and as power is slowly and finally being restored, I thought I’d cheer up the few fellow spankos over there with some typically American updates, many very recent, which (if they have power) they can now see.

Tomorrow is the official date for Guy Fawkes or “Bonfire Night” as we Brits burn effigies of Guy, the man who dared to blow up parliament with barrels of gunpowder. So we now find an excuse to burn anything heaped up and set off a ton of fireworks in honour of this infamous traitor… however, that is usually done at weekends so I have attended the usual local firework displays and such already… but I also did smile when I saw that although the race for The Whitehouse is hotting up and is really neck and neck, us Brits and most of the rest of the world clearly know who we’d want to win in various respected worldwide polls – Obama! I can’t think of anything worse than that ignorant, smarmy Romney winning… well, another superstorm, perhaps. So as I have now alienated half my north amecican readership… let’s move on with an image I took yesterday back from work as Autumn, or “The Fall” is well and truly under way here… (I didn’t crash my car taking the pic on my phone) and judging from recent news of killer fungus and airborne arboreal diseases, our beautiful woodlands of Ash and Oak may be decimated if what has happened in some European countries befalls our most striking tress (90% of the entire Ash tree population of Denmark have been wiped out and that killer fuingus is now found in some of our woodlands already with no known cure) it kind of reminds me when I was a kid and seeing all the magnificent Elm tress in the 1970’s being destroyed, once everywhere they are now an extremely rare tree in the UK, if found at all – so images like this on the way back from work should be enjoyed while I can 🙁

Some Industry Updates

It is rapidly turning colder and greyer here in the UK, the leaves are really starting to fall off the trees and winter is fast approaching! I’m not a big fan of early dark evenings, the dark mornings, it is so depressing to get up at 7, come home by 6 or 7 and have to drive in complete darkness both ways… ugh! The general gloom and grey that persists with our rubbish winter weather is monotonous and it wears me down. Make no mistake, the last few years has seen our country get wetter and wetter, especially the summers and autumns… add to that the apparently colder winters to look forward to, it appears all we ever have to look forward to is Spring which promises so much then summer kicks in… All this “hoo-haa” about Global warming seems a world away, even though I know our climate IS changing. But enough of my depression over the rubbish that is outside beyond my control… let me fill you in on some essential site updates you can see today. Well, now that I am safely back in the UK… imagine my surprise when I saw that warm yellow round thing in the sky! Yes, a beautiful warm day and a great September weekend ahead… I’m impressed, especially as my last few days on the eastern side of my American visit included torrential rain, mist, fog and some frightening thunder and lightening in the coastal resorts of the New Jersey shoreline… as you’ll see below in some self indulgence, we went to NYC for the day in case the weather remained bad (it behaved, actually) and did a few things like spend the day at the “Top of the Rock” (Rockerfeller Center) and visit Liberty Island in between my many mohitos and Jack Daniels (yum!)

Sometimes you have to admire an individual, I just watched the amazing and historic 200m race in which Usain Bolt defended his Olympic title with ease and did it with style. I don’t know what it is about the men’s 100 and 200m finals that evokes such emotion… but I was guilty of being caught up in it, 1st it was the 100m race which he won easily last week… now tonight we witnessed what everyone believed would be equally historic, perhaps it’s seeing Man take on and defy nature of what we are or can become, the same can be said for many of the sports I have witnessed over the past 10 or 11 days, but none stand out like the 100 or 200m final, even though, my fellow countrymen are breaking their own records and actually putting our tiny overpopulated country on the map once more as we show the world that we can compete (and as I saw today, make the French media insanely jealous of our awesome cycling team… which gave me even more pleasure) – So to all athletes and olympians competing out there, a big “thank you” from Chief for making this a spectacle I and many of my fellow Brits won’t forget in a hurry in what has become a momentous year for our country, even despite the crummy bankers and the continuing farce of the Eurozone threatening to drag us back to the Stone Age… I say this – “Why are you not looking at my Spanking Updates?” Let’s get down wit dat ass…

Excuse me for having a heavy head, I celebrated along with many of my fellow countrymen last night a thrilling win of our football team over Sweden… in fact, it’s hard to believe, but Sweden has been one of those teams until last night that England had NEVER beaten in a competitive game. Everyone talks about “bogey sides” and Sweden has always been ours… what’s more, we have often taken the lead against them and they have always pulled it back or beaten us, so when we took the lead… then they went 2-1 up quickly after half time, my heart sank… “Here we go again”, I thought… but no, our boys pulled out a maginificent fightback and not only drew level but ended up winning 3-2 to send the Swedes home, unable to qualify from this group! Excuse me whilst I revel in this as I show you some images from that game last night in Kiev.
